MAINTENANCE AND CARE TIPS Tire Care Even with the best of care, tires will eventually wear out. Tires should be replaced when the wear band is visible through the tire treads. Your tire warranty identifies the conditions under which your car dealer may replace your tires due to any defects. Tire Pressure Check tire pressure when tires are cold - after the vehicle has been parked for at least one hour or driven less than three miles. Warm tires will read approximately 5 psi more than their cold-temperature pressure. Re-check the pressure with the gauge after filling. It is important not to over-inflate your tires. If the tires are over-inflated, you can release air by pressing the valve inside the tire valve stem. Dealing with Flat Tires Park on a level surface, place the gearshift in park (first gear for manual transmission), and set the parking brake. Block the front and rear of the tire diagonally opposite of the flat tire. Remove the jack and lug wrench. If you have locking lug nuts, also locate the special lock fitting. To expose the lug nuts, remove the hubcap or center ornament by prying it off with the tapered end of the wrench. Loosen each lug nut one-half turn counterclockwise. Do not loosen them any more until the vehicle is jacked up. If your vehicle has locking lug nuts, refer to your owner's manual for specific instructions. Place the jack in the jack notch next to the door nearest the tire that you are changing. Turn the jack handle clockwise until the wheel is completely off the ground. Remove the lug nuts with the lug wrench. Replace the tire with the new tire, making sure the valve stem is facing outward. Re-install lug nuts until the wheel is snug against the hub. Do not fully tighten the lug nuts until the wheel has been lowered. Lower the wheel by turning the jack handle counterclockwise. Remove the jack and fully tighten the lug nuts beginning at the top of the tire and then every other one until done. Replace the hubcap or center ornament. Put away the jack, lug wrench, and any special lock fittings where they can easily be found next time.
